No where is safe

I do receive a lot of emails from friends which were forwarded to them. Some junks, some jokes, some inspirational, some pure crap. And amongst all these, I noticed there is an increase on personal experiences of safety, written out in goodwill to warn others about the dangers that lurk in every corner of the earth.

Being from Malaysia, of course my eyes and ears will perk whenever I read about something happened or nearly happened to someone there, mostly in KL. And without hesitation, I will forward these mails to my relatives and friends in Malaysia, alerting them to buck up on their own safety, be it true or false. You can never be too careful. Just this morning, or was it last night, I forwarded one on a lady being pursued by men in two luxury cars at Mid Valley. In broad daylight.

A personal friend of mine was followed at Mid Valley few years ago, with his wife and two lovely daughters in tow. He guessed the two men may have been after his daughters, and he gave them the stare, letting them know that he knew they were there watching them, and left the place. Imagine if he was busy shopping with his wife, what would have happened? Lose a daughter? Or both? It sends shivers down my spine just to think about it.

And just this evening, my niece in KL had the displeasure of being robbed of her handbag right in front of her house in Bangsar. I do not have the exact details yet, for it was another niece who messaged me. It was at one of those Terasek streets. She hurt her knee, and the snatch thief had a knife. She is so so so lucky to have gotten away with just a minor injury, shaken no doubt. Forget about the hassle of reporting the loss of cards. Nowadays it's the life that matters.

After reading all these, I think I'd better get a personal alarm. Not that I necessarily know how and when to sound it when s**t happens, but it's better to have one than none. No?

sorry to hear about your niece. The crime rate is getting from bad to worse here.

safety in KL is highly questionable. i've heard many stories about buglaries, snactching and child abucting. very scary ... even reading about the story of your nieve sent a chill into my spine.

That's terrible.... I will find something to self-protect if I still live there....

hi all, it is sad malaysia's safety rate is now so low and even the cops will only tell you that there are many cases like this when you report your case to them, and that they can't do anything about it. so what's the point of reporting when you lost only cash and jewellery, eh?
