It wasn't a good day to start with....

Aidan came to our room at 7am with a bleeding nose.

Not that he was concerned with it, but I was the one who got weak after nursing the nose with, to me, a larger amount blood than usual. Of course I went all lembik....

Went to the developmental paed. today, and after assessing Aidan for a while, she couldn't give a clear cut decision as to whether it was just speech delay or he has mild autism. There is a large grey area where he excels in some skills and other that points to having autistic signs, like being in his own world sometimes. Aren't most kids like this? That being said, he is trasitioning from toddler to pre-schooler, therefore he is still trying to absorb as much as he can. Bear in mind not every child's mind grows at the same rate.

And in order to get a clearer picture, he has to go through an assessment with a speech pathologist and a child psychologist. Also to have a blood test done on chromosomes, iron and whatnots. I didn't know what to expect, but I certainly didn't expect the paed. to be unsure, and certainly not expecting to hear her confirm that he has autism, which she has not. This is where every single parent will be in denial, I am no different, but there is still hope yet. Maybe he is just being slow in speech? And his kindy teacher and carer said he's happy and fine at school. A lot of kids don't talk till 4, right? Sigh... I don't know.

The Blood Test
Might as well go straight to Dorevitch to get it done and over with. My poor little bubba didn't know what was going on until the needle enters his arm, and he gave a jolt, which displaced the needle. He was struggling not to cry, with tears and runny nose all over his face. The nurse was trying to get the most out of it, but couldn't, unfortunately. I said we'll come back another time, as Aidan was already quite distressed about it.

The other nurse said to get through with it, as he still needs to get it done the next time. So, on to the other arm. This time when the needle went in, he moved again, and same thing happened. The needle was on the wrong spot again! The nurse had to move it around to get the blood, and I was just staring without knowing what to think! To have a needle in is one thing, to have it moving around me, I haven't tried that before... Aidan was crying this time. For sure!!

He clung on to me for the next good 15 minutes. Poor darling. My heart was bleeding too. A little while later he started to get a little angry instead, as if telling me 'I'm supposed to trust you to keep me safe. How can you put me through this pain?'

But right now, he has just finished his lunch and watching telly, just like any other day. I'll let him be naughty today without getting mad at him. *Other mums don't follow me, bad for you :P*

we still have to pay thru our noses leh, but with a 'care plan' referral from my GP accd. to the paed. she says for this combi-of-3 (paed, psyc and speech) can get Medicare rebate. so hopefully not too bad lor. also i haven't called to make appt and ask how much pun. today's 1st time session is $220 but got about $120 rebate. ok lor..

Gosh, I know what you mean when you said you'd let him be naughty for that day. The poor boy and yikes! Having needles poking into him on both his hands, I'd cry too. Hope the result will be fine. Keep us posted, ya.
