What makes a person want to apply for a new credit card?

I have been chatting with my friend in the UK and she was complaining and ranting on the annual fee charged for both primary and additional card for her partner. Time for her to apply for a credit card that not only does not charge annual fee for both cards, but also offers 0% balance transfer, 0% on purchases, till a certain time of course, high credit limit and heaps more on fraud protection and 24 hour customer service.
