Fish Spa - Be informed

There is so much hype going on about the fish spas around town in KL. I am sure it feels nice to be nibbled gently by these toothless teeny weenies, and I was most tempted to give it a try when I was back. I would have, if it was an individual foot spa, but upon knowing it was shared, I didn't go ahead. Not that it makes any difference, thinking about it now. Same fish, right?

Then I self analyse. What if, someone who is infected, with watnots, e.g. HIV virus, has a wound. Would pass to the fish, fish becomes carrier, and infect one potential customer who may have a little wound. DIE HARD! Now don't take my words for it, this is only my thoughts.

Then a friend of mine in Ipoh, who loves fishes, told me that there are fake ones in the market. The original ones are Garra fish, and many unscrupulous traders use baby tilapias, and these have teeth, they might bite, although you may feel only a little nip.

And two days ago, I received some info in the email. For those who haven't already read about it, digest this before going on a so-called 'pampering' session:

Tilapia, Talapia

The China breeders wanted to market this fish, named them as Dr. Fish, so it is easier to sell to the market. Chin Chin uses Doctor Fish because Doctor Fish is not trademark or registered.

Just started 2 years ago when the Japanese started the first fish spa in Asia using the only real and original Garra Rufa from Turkey. Apparently, chinese see this a big market and great opportunity for fish spa business across China. However to start fish spa with Garra Rufa, they are dealing with high price and low supply. So, they trained a new fish just for the sake of attacking our skin and call it as Doctor Fish.

Why this fish appear in the market

It appears more than a decade ago and never intend for exporting. Due to a great research white paper done by Austria Medical University (one of the largest medical research university in the world) and published by Oxford University Press, it became popular overnight.
