Slowly back to normal

Things are getting slowly back to normal.

Aidan cried so much the first couple of nights upon coming back. He wanted me to sleep in his bed, as we have been inseparable for the whole month we were away. The third night was better, as I made him know that I would be around, leaving his door wide opened. Two nights ago he came to our room and I had to walk him back to his, after his midnight wee. He insisted that I should lie down next to him still, but of course I didn't, and since last night he had been able to kiss me goodnight without whingeing.

On Wednesday, he balked at the sight of my uniform. It was my first day back to work. I had to get Wilkin to distract him with a Slurpee from 7-11. Yesterday was his first day at school after our holidays, and he wanted me to stay there with him. When I walked out the door, he plastered his sad and pitiful face against the glass door. The assistant to the kindy teacher told me it would be best if I didn't hang around, so I left quickly. I could see her struggling with him, trying to pull him back into class. My boy has the strength of a donkey should he need to use it.

I knew he would be okay once my back is turned, but still I can't help feeling upset to see that look on his face. MANIPULATOR! True enough, he was happy as anything when I went to pick him up. And when I got ready for work later in the evening, he couldn't be bothered pulling at my pants anymore.

I do hope next year will be easier once he starts to understand that his parents will not leave him no matter what. I know he has been feeling insecure with all the people coming and going, seeing them one day and not the next, throughout our trip.

Anyway, at least I can sleep in peace now, without him coming over to my room every few hours.
